The pioneer cemetery is located in McLeod Street Cairns close to the centre of town (10 mins walk). It is situated in a quiet area and the grounds are pleasant with a mixture of native Australian Trees along with pines.
There is an open building that houses alphabetical engraved lists of all those interred along with their year of decease and in many cases their year of birth along with the plot number. I have included part of this here .

Many of the graves, however are not marked and do not have the plot numbers and have to be researched via maps at the local council. But the dates of birth and death should be of interest to family researchers.

About 40% of the marked grave are like the small brass plaqued ones below and they sometimes give cause and place of death (or place of residence)and occupation. There are about 20% small children or stillbirths.

Most of the monuments are legible and I will try and photograph more as time allows.
